HOW TO APPLY

Before You Apply

Step 1 – Prepare Your Skin

For the best possible numbing results, prepare your skin the night before your tattoo or procedure.

  • Shave the area the night before (avoid shaving on the day, as this can irritate the skin).
  • Exfoliate thoroughly using soap or a gentle exfoliator to remove dead skin and improve absorption.
  • Ensure the area is free from body hair, clean and healthy before application.

Why?
Freshly shaved or irritated skin can become red and sensitive, which may affect your artist’s ability to begin your tattoo or procedure.)

Step 2 – Open Your Pores

On the day of your appointment, take a hot shower before applying the cream.

The heat helps open your pores, allowing the numbing cream to penetrate deeper into the skin for improved performance.

Pat the area completely dry using a clean towel. Avoid rubbing the skin, as friction may cause unnecessary irritation.ry area completely. (Pat area dry with towel, try not to irritate skin by rubbing the skin)

Applying the Cream

Step 1 – First Application

Apply a generous layer of cream to the desired area.
Massage it into the skin thoroughly, just as you would apply sunscreen, ensuring complete coverage.

Step 2 – Apply a Thick Second Layer

Immediately apply a second layer without waiting.

This layer should remain thick (approximately 1–2 mm) and should not be rubbed into the skin.

A generous application is essential for achieving the best numbing effect.

Step 3 – Cover with Cling Wrap

Cover the area completely using cling wrap (plastic film).

This is one of the most important steps.

Keeping the cream sealed prevents exposure to oxygen, allowing it to absorb more effectively into the skin.

When applying the wrap, avoid pulling it too tightly. Tight wrapping can spread the cream away from the treatment area and reduce the thickness of the layer you’ve just applied.

If possible, remain relaxed and avoid excessive movement while the cream is working, as movement may also cause the cream to shift.

Keep the wrapped area cool until it’s time to remove the cream.

Before Your Procedure

Leave the cream covered with cling wrap for 60–90 minutes before your tattoo or procedure.

Every artist works differently. Some may spend additional time preparing stencils or setting up before they begin tattooing. This is completely normal, so don’t worry if the cream remains on slightly longer than expected.

Important: Your numbing time effectively begins once the cling wrap is removed, so try to time your application so your artist is ready to begin shortly afterwards.

During Longer Sessions

For extended tattoo sessions, a numbing gel or spray may be reapplied to broken skin throughout the procedure to help maintain comfort.

After Removing the Cream

Most people experience numbness for approximately 3–8 hours, depending on:

  • The product used
  • Skin type
  • Tattoo location
  • Individual body chemistry

Some people may notice a mild warming sensation or slight tingling while the cream is activating. This is generally normal.

If you experience significant discomfort or intense burning, remove the cream immediately and wash the area thoroughly with soap and water.

Pro Tip

A few days before your appointment, check in with your artist to see if your stencil can be prepared before you arrive.

If possible, time your cream application so the tattoo begins soon after the cling wrap is removed, helping you get the maximum benefit from the numbing cream.
